Job Title: Substation Electrician
Reporting to: Site Supervisor / Manager
Business Unit: Substations
Role
Working on electrical substation projects both new build and refurbishment. Individuals will need to be highly flexible in respect of day-to-day work requirements and working away from home.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components in substations.
Perform routine inspections and testing of electrical systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
Collaborate with other team members to ensure project deadlines are met.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment including:
Relevant safety policies and procedures.
Oil handling / testing procedures.
SF6 gas handling procedures.
Use of access / lifting equipment procedures.
Assisting in delivery of new substation construction and refurbishment programmes through:
Installation, glanding and termination of multicore control and protection cabling.
Installation of control and protection panels.
Reading and interpreting schematic diagrams.
Installation of switchgear.
Installation of support structures and associated equipment (CT’s, VT’s, busbars, circuit breakers, disconnects etc).
Installation of transformers.
Obtaining and working under appropriate safety rules and authorisations.
Pre-commissioning of electrical installations.
Earthing of HV plant and equipment.
New connections and extensions at various sites.
Working on commercial HV customers plant and equipment as and when required
Ensuring compliance with all agreed customer requirements.
Completing high quality work on time and within budget.
Using initiative to improve on product delivery.
Liaise in a courteous and professional manner with all client representatives and other third parties.
Governance:
Interfaces and relationships with key stakeholders:
· Site Manager / Supervisor.
· Site Fitters and Apprentices.
· Sub-Contractors.
· Third Party Workforces that may be affected by our works.
· Project Team (Safety and Design).
· Project Manager.
Person Specification – Qualifications and experience:
Essential
· Qualified Electrician.
· Ability to read and work off schematic diagrams, with a knowledge of control and protection systems.
· Experience of installation and termination of SWA (Single Wire Armoured) and NYCY (Copper Sheath) Multicore and Communications cables.
· High level manual dexterity and technical ability with proven experience in wiring panels within relevant environment.
· Working knowledge of AC / DC Systems.
· Ability to work well in a close knit and highly motivated team.
· Ability to work on own initiative with willingness to be accountable for their work.
· High Safety ethic.
· Positive attitude.
· Excellent Customer / Commercial focus.
· Results orientation.
· First Class Planning / Organisational skills.
· Highly flexible / adaptable attitude towards day-to-day activities and hours / work locations.
Desirable
· Relevant experience within the utility contracting environment on 220kv / 110kv / 38kv Substations.
· Ability and confidence to carry out pre-commissioning checks on electrical systems.
· Previous supervisory experience.
· SSSTS.
Must also possess:
· Basic reading, writing and maths skills.
· Relevant accreditations for role.
· Good understanding of reading and understanding drawings and documents.
· Have/maintain a level of training, experience & Qualifications for your role, as expected / outlined by Omexom.
· Computer literate in line with Omexom system.
· Knowledge of substation health and safety procedures.
· CSCS.
