Job Title: Senior CAD Technician – Civil & Structural
Reporting to: Principle Design Engineer/Section Lead
Role purpose
The Senior CAD Technician will:
Be responsible for managing and coordinating the CAD delivery of projects, with a strong understanding of delivering work to agreed quality, cost, and programme requirements.
Manage and deliver single and/or multi-disciplinary CAD outputs in line with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Lead and coordinate Civil CAD design activities, acting as the lead CAD technician on projects of varying size and complexity, appropriate to their experience.
Produce high-quality Civil CAD designs and drawings, and work closely with Omexom Engineers to develop concepts and calculations into detailed, construction-ready drawings as part of a wider design team.
Maintain a sound working knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and client specifications applicable to Civil design, ensuring drawings comply with all required requirements.
Work using their own initiative and provide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring support to CAD technicians, graduate engineers, and trainees as required.
Deliver appropriate levels of Civil CAD design and detailing across a range of Civil & Structural elements, in accordance with project requirements and direction from the BUGM and their reports.
Will contribute to the development and mentoring of junior staff.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
• Produce, manage, and coordinate high-quality CAD designs and drawings in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and Omexom procedures.
• Act as Lead CAD Technician on allocated projects, coordinating drawing production, revisions, and issue registers to meet programme and delivery milestones.
• Develop Civil layouts, general arrangements, and detailed construction drawings from engineering concepts and calculations.
• Liaise closely with Engineers and other discipline teams to ensure designs are fully coordinated and technically compliant.
• Ensure all CAD outputs meet quality, cost, and schedule requirements, carrying out self-checks and peer reviews as required.
• Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, standards, and client requirements applicable to Civil and Structural design and ensure compliance within drawings.
• Support and mentor junior CAD technicians, graduates, and trainees, providing technical guidance and drawing checks where required.
• Manage CAD standards, layering conventions, drawing templates, and document control processes in line with company procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of CAD processes, workflows, and best practice within the Primary design team.
• Work independently using own initiative while reporting progress, risks, and issues to the BUGM or nominated project leads.

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
The jobholder shall hold a degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a similar role.
Essential:
• Proven experience working as a Senior CAD Technician or CAD Technician within the civil and structural field.
• Extensive experience 5-8 years producing General arrangements and details for buildings, foundations and roads
• High level of proficiency in relevant CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, REVIT or equivalent).
• Experience working to industry standards, client specifications, and internal CAD procedures.
Desirable:
• Degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience working on National Grid, DNO, or other major utility projects.
• Knowledge of BIM environments and model-based design (e.g. BIM 360, Revit, ProjectWise).
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior CAD technicians or trainees.
• Familiarity with CDM Regulations and design assurance processes.
Competencies
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
• Working knowledge of the 2015 CDM Regulations, including Designer duties and awareness of Principal Designer requirements.
• Ability to support and discharge Designer responsibilities under CDM, ensuring Designer Risk Assessments are completed and reflected in CAD outputs.
• Promote and follow company CAD, design, and document control procedures.
• Knowledge of current UK technical standards and relevant legislation.
• Understanding of common UK construction materials (e.g. steel, concrete, reinforced concrete, timber) and their design limitations.
• Strong attention to detail, ensuring designs are coordinated, suitable, and constructable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Highly proficient in CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
