Reporting to: Site Manager
Role Purpose
The Site Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Site Manager/Project Engineer through tendering, planning, developing and delivering Overhead Line projects, ensuring the highest standards of health & safety, environmental and quality requirements are met whilst maintaining productivity at all times.
The jobholder will work full‑time on site as part of an experienced construction team, setting to work and leading overhead line teams and subcontractors to meet project objectives. They will be expected to travel to various site locations throughout the UK.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
Be responsible for safety for yourself, colleagues and others.
Lead by example.
Ensure all works are conducted in the correct and safe manner and proactively reduce site hazards.
Conduct monitoring and inspections on a routine basis, actively reporting Positive Interventions.
Complete project inductions and undertake setting‑to‑work briefings.
Issue documentation and permits (e.g., permit to dig).
Ensure works are compliant with all relevant quality standards and records are whole, accurate and complete.
Maintain and develop new skills and competencies in accordance with Omexom’s training standards and legislative changes.
Undertake Site Manager / Project Engineer duties during absence cover or on smaller projects as necessary.
Compile an accurate and up‑to‑date daily site diary.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of Omexom and its clients.
Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and clients.
Work as part of a team to ensure safe, effective, and efficient implementation of operations.
Ensure conformity to all instructions stated in method statements and risk assessments.
Ensure accidents, incidents and near misses are suitably reported.
Ensure compliance with statutory legislation and public bodies.
Ensure all work is completed to a high-quality standard.
Effectively communicate with clients, landowners and other 3rd parties in a professional manner.
Embed a positive culture across the team.
Proactively identify areas for business improvement to improve safety and efficiency.
Person Specification
The jobholder will be responsible for the safety of themselves and colleagues, acting as an ambassador for a strong safety culture within Omexom. The role can be challenging and requires the ability to respond quickly to changing situations. The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Qualifications and Experience
The jobholder must have experience of working in the overhead line construction industry and possess a strong understanding of health, safety, environment and quality aspects, along with sound technical knowledge, as well as:
Experience, knowledge and application of the utilities/construction industry.
Experience in a similar role.
Industry‑recognised Engineering or Safety qualification.
Experience supervising Overhead Line construction activities, including subcontract works.
Experience dealing with clients, landowners and 3rd parties such as Network Rail, Highways, Environment Agency, DNOs, etc.
Competencies
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Flexibility to travel across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally Europe.
Full driving licence.
Ability to ensure compliance with safety rules and documentation, and a commitment to working safely at all times.
Ability to work in a time‑pressured environment.
Ability to adapt to changing situations and environments.
Strong communication skills.
Effective team worker.
Ability to represent Omexom in a professional manner at all times.
Note: This is a flexible‑based role with frequent travel and overnight stays as required on projects.
