Job Title: Environmental Advisor
Role Purpose
The jobholder will provide support and advice to the operational teams on all environmental and sustainability matters, developing documentation, meeting legal, regulatory, and company standards, and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.
They will work with clients and regulators to ensure compliance with requirements, support on-site mitigation, enhance sustainability of works, and engage with local stakeholders.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
Assist with providing advice and support to operational teams on environmental & sustainability matters, including advising on latest low or zero-carbon technologies.
Assist with maintaining relationships with regulators, clients, subcontractors, and local stakeholders.
Support project teams in investigating environmental incidents and help implement controls to prevent recurrence.
Ensure on-site compliance with environmental legislation and coach teams in applying controls and mitigations.
Support sustainability activities for both project and business.
Advise the business on best practice in areas of corporate, ethical, and social responsibility, and address any issues arising.
Maintain awareness of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), PAS 2080 (Carbon Management in Infrastructure), and alignment with Omexom and associated industry sustainability targets.
Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors on environmental management and sustainability matters.
Provide support to operations and design teams on compliance and project-specific mitigation measures, including pollution control and ecology protection.
Produce internal and external reports as required (e.g. case studies, environmental & sustainability performance).
Support and conduct audit and assurance activities, including facilitating external audits by clients and certification bodies.
Undertake other related duties as appropriate and directed by the Line Manager.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
Educated to degree level in Environmental Science or Environmental Management.
Practical experience and knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licences and consent applications, and regulator consultation.
Understanding of the construction operating environment.
Membership of an Environmental Body (e.g. IES, IEMA) desirable.
Good knowledge of ISO 14001 (training can be provided if required).
Internal Auditor qualification desirable.
Competencies
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Strong knowledge of environmental management and sustainability issues, including Water Environment, Ecology, Archaeology, and Private Water Supplies.
Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel.
Ability and willingness to work flexibly from home, office, and site-based environments.
Self-motivated with the ability to motivate staff at all levels.
Effective communication skills (oral and written).
Ability to establish effective networks internally and externally.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new IT packages as required.
Ability to share knowledge and skills with colleagues and contribute to the development of team capabilities.
