Job Title: Junior Tendering Engineer
Reporting to: Bid Manager
Business Unit: Major Projects South
Role purpose
Working within the Major Projects South Tendering team, the Junior will support the Tendering efforts in the preparation of detailed bid and tender submissions of value £1m and above.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
- Responsible to support the Tendering Team in the production of complete project pricing and tender preparation for turnkey (design, procure, install and commission) construction of new and refurbishment of existing electricity substations.
- The post holder will work closely across all departments to provide support to project manpower resources and with our procurement team in requesting prices for required equipment and materials.
- Attend Internal Pre-Tender Meetings and capturing key actions and requirements. Arrange for feedback to be captured within the Business via further internal release.
- Inspect customer tender documentation. Collate and document requirements and identify areas that may have implications via Risk Analysis.
- Provide support to the creation of detailed Bill of Quantities where applicable (BoQ) and otherwise cost modelling using the Estimating Software Package.
- Clearly identify items to have Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) sent out, together with specification preliminary elements and appropriate drawings. Monitor enquiry process and dates for quotation returns.
- Collate received RFQs from suppliers, store and document and known issues for comparison and selection for inclusion in the priced tender.
- Using standard forms, support the build-up of allowances for each project. Discuss construction sequences of projects, supporting through the checking and comparison of resources vs. programme requirements.
- Attend Post-Tender Meetings with the customer team to support presentations of offers, and value engineering exercises.
- Carry out adjustments to the tender based on the pre-tender and post-tender discussions. Support the completion of customer tender documentation for submission by the due date.
- Collate, store and backup audit trail key documentation to Omexom internal systems.
- Assist in efficiency improvements through procedures and library information.
- Attend Handovers to the Project Delivery Team for won projects, including an explanation of the project and submission of handover documentation.

Qualifications and experience
It is essential that the role holder is a focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role. Desirable attributes include:
- Understanding of Microsoft suite of software (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint) with demonstrable application.
- Excellent communication skills combined with the analytical and problem-solving skills to reach realistic/workable solutions.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently with guidance and support.
- Able to work to tight tender submission deadlines, demonstrating ability to work under pressure.
- Logical and rational thinking.
- Keen to develop as a proposal professional and in the electrical industry.
- Willing to grow and take on additional responsibilities and duties with increased experience.
- Ability to travel for key customer meetings throughout Great Britain.
- An ability to work closely and effectively with internal Omexom departments, local project teams and Others to achieve challenging targets.
- Adaptability to succeed within a demanding business and deadlines.
Further attributes may include:
- Understanding of commercial terms and conditions and the impact they would have upon project delivery (i.e. NEC3/NEC4).
- Experience or exposure to an Estimating or similar commercial/sourcing role.
- HV electrical or similar electrical industry experience.
